Munich last Saturday turned into a stage all night, from 6pm till 3.00 am, where several bands and DJs played in order to delight the city with rock, jazz , blues , pop , folk , swing , salsa and many other genres. The event could not be called otherwise: Die lange Nacht der Musik , ” the long night of music”.
By buying a ticket at the price of 15 Euro you could access each event and take advantage of the special tram in which many bands have played literally in for the passengers !
The event was held in every corner of the city, the center, Schwabing, south west and eastside. Concerts could be seen in many places such as in cultural institutes, pubs, restaurants, clubs and even some churches have opened their doors to the music.
My tour starts at the Gasteig, a cultural center open to the public, the place where the Munich Philharmonic plays usually and the place for general education.
Here a band played called Stockwerk orange played Brazilian music.
The music transported the audience to distant and wild landscapes of South America with samba, reggae and influences from Funk, Ska and Drum and Bass.
Inside the center the band Tintenfischband played its concerts. Party time with pop, rock, soul, rap e latin where particular 7 musicians played along with professional ones.
From Gasteig i went to Hamburgherei zwei to listen to an English singer, staying in the east side of town.
His name is Matthew Austin, a songwriter from Manchester, UK who enchanted everybody with an awesome Folk-Rock Genre.
Now lets go to the centre of Munich!
You wanna hear some swing??
Here at Vintage club you can learn how to dance swing, boogie, lindy hop and stare at the professional dancers wearing fantastic 40’s outfits!
Saturday people could learn some simple and basic steps with a swing teacher! The steps are actually easy to repeat and as soon as the music starts you can not help but rock out or swing out.
